Testimonial – Jesse Loughman “Colorado Weedery”

When we were getting ready to do the buildout for Colorado Weedery, we needed help and really didn’t
know which direction to go. Josh came in, helped us get everything set up, and gave us the direction we
needed to move the project forward.

One of the things I appreciated from the beginning was being able to work directly with Josh. He was always
available, and it was nice dealing directly with the owner of the design company instead of having to go
through multiple people.

Josh’s communication throughout the project was excellent. Whenever we needed him, he was available,
and he always seemed to be one step ahead of every part of the project. He anticipated what was coming
next and made the entire process much easier.

The finished product was excellent. Josh created a truly one-of-a-kind setup for us. It wasn’t a cookie-cutter
design, and there isn’t another project that is identical to ours. That uniqueness is one of the things I
appreciate most about what he created.

I would absolutely recommend Josh to other dispensary or retail owners. He has a unique style, brings great
ideas to the table, and makes the entire process easy from the beginning all the way through completion.

What also really stood out was his follow-through after the project was finished. Like any buildout, when
everything was said and done, we had a few punch-list items and minor corrections. Josh was there
immediately and took care of every concern we had. It was a real pleasure knowing that when we needed
him, he would be there.

Challenge

The Weedery’s first location, in Palisade, CO, was one of the earliest licensed dispensaries in Colorado. Josh was introduced to owner Jesse Loughman to prepare the drawings and data sheets needed for a separate license application in Grand Junction — including layout, security, and vault specifications, the first time Josh had done this kind of license-application drafting for a client. They won the license and hired Josh on the spot to design the new store: an empty shell building already under lease.

Approach

Josh proposed a design retainer, which Jesse and his partner Dessa paid without hesitation. He took field measurements, cross-referenced the architectural drawings, and modeled the entire space in 3D. With the client’s own sense of the building’s primary layout as a starting point, Josh built in the walls, restrooms, check-in room, storage, and security room first, then installed retail fixtures to begin flow planning. Two more meetings dialed in the layout and added color — at which point Josh pitched mural work, and the client immediately agreed to murals across 30% of the interior walls. Final renderings and one last sign-off meeting followed, then production began.

Execution ran in sequence: engineering and manufacturing started, murals were painted once the interior was ready (6 days), floors were finished, and fixtures went in last (3 days) — while also building and installing steel workbenches for the production side, finishing the intake desk, and coordinating the schedule around a separate video-screen installation crew working the same space. Josh and his team finished ahead of schedule.

Result

A complete Grand Junction dispensary build, finished October 2023, that grew directly out of Josh’s license-application work for the client’s first store in Palisade. Real named testimonial on record:

Lesson: the license-application drawings were unpaid groundwork, not the paid job — but they’re what put Josh in the room when the real design engagement came up.
