Swampy

Challenge

A client who went by Swampy, from Louisiana, wanted his chopper to feel like the Louisiana swamp itself — a specific, personal regional identity captured in paint and metal, not a generic theme.

Approach

Josh worked with Kiwi Terry, True Kustom’s artist in residence at the time, to concept and execute a gator emerging up through duckweed, airbrushed across the tank and rear fender — a technically demanding subject to render in realistic reptile-skin texture. The build’s other signature piece was on the front springer forks: welds fillet-finished smooth and sprayed bright silver, then airbrushed with color fades to mimic heat-signature discoloration from welding, creating the illusion of visible weld marks with no actual welds showing.

Result

The bike drew real attention specifically around the forks — people asking how they’d been welded, not realizing the weld marks were airbrushed illusion rather than actual joinery. The build won Best Paint at the 2012 Colorado Motorcycle Show and Swap.
