Art

Art made without a client brief — paint-pour and abstract work, live-painting sessions at public events, freestyle spray-can pieces, and sculptural experiments in light and form. No commission, no spec sheet: material, instinct, and the same design sensibility that runs through every commercial project, working without direction.

Video documentation of the light-and-form sculpture piece is in production for the joshbourassa YouTube channel — embed coming soon.

Street Art

Freehand spray-can work across walls, skate parks, and vehicles in Bozeman and Denver, 2015–2016 — full-scale pieces done at speed, with no do-overs once the can is empty. A different discipline from the paint booth: same hand, same eye for composition and color, working at building scale instead of a fender panel.

Photography

Landscape and travel photography, plus a process series documenting the mixing of a metallic green paint — the same fascination with material behavior that runs through decades of custom paint work, seen through a camera instead of a spray gun.

Music

Thirty years of music, starting with a guitar lesson at fifteen in 1995 that led quickly to bass — his primary instrument since. Josh formed his first band, StrawDog, in Bozeman in 1997, writing 35 original songs and headlining a festival he helped organize. Loose Change followed, a power trio that played Montana bars and recorded a live set for KGLT at Montana State University. After a move to Denver in 2003 and the demands of raising a family and running True Kustom, music continued in the background — a jazz cover band, then DJ and Ableton production work starting in 2015, and a return to regular playing after a 2018 move to Paonia, CO. LamaHawk, a ’90s cover band with Josh on guitar and vocals, formed in Grand Junction in 2020. He is currently writing and recording a six-song set with longtime collaborators Neil Olsen and Kevin Mahoney. Across every instrument and era, music has been the one place with no brief to follow — pure exploration, in whatever style and on whatever instrument the moment calls for.
